The NMAAHC Year-Long Celebration! is presented in celebration of the Grand Opening of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture.

The National Museum of African American History and Culture is the 19th museum of the Smithsonian Institution and is located at the foot of the Washington Monument on the National Mall in Washington, DC. The museum provides for the collection, study, and establishment of programs and exhibitions related to African American life, history, art, and culture. It is a place where people can learn about the richness and diversity of the African American experience; it is a place of meaning, memory, reflection, laughter, and hope.

The views, findings, conclusions or recommendations expressed in this NMAAHC Grand Opening Celebration! do not necessarily represent those of the National Museum of African American History and Culture.

"The Public Works of Sargent Johnson" is a large format photography exhibition featuring images of some of the iconic artist’s public works that can be viewed in the San Francisco Bay Area. Sargent Claude Johnson (1888–1967) was a premiere African American artist of his time who was respected by his peers of all races. He was a master in multiple artistic disciplines and received commissions from the Federal Arts Project (FAP). The FAP funded the visual arts through the Works Progress Administration as part of President Roosevelt’s New Deal.

This exhibition was created in 2010 by artist/photographer Duane M. Conliffe and sponsored by the Richmond Art Center (RAC, Richmond, California) with a grant from the San Francisco Foundation. This work was originally shown at the RAC in 2010 with other showings at the Canessa Gallery in San Francisco, CA and Africa House Gallery in Lynchburg, VA in 2012.

This body of photographic works on satin is now poised for exhibition at Sidney & Company Studio in Laurel, MD from September 24 – October 30, 2016. This inaugural event in the 15 month “Lift Every Voice” campaign is co-branded with the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History & Culture (NMAAHC). The NMAAHC Grand Opening is on September 24th. A new exhibition with demonstration, class and/or exhibitor's talk will be hosted every month through December 2017 in celebration of this historic new museum in Washington, D.C.
